Many Colleges are Dropping or Reducing SAT Requirements for Class of 2021

But here’s what you need to know!

No SAT Tests for the c/o 2021 will most likely make it harder for students to get accepted!

  • More Pressure on the Quality of the Application & Essays

  • Makes UC or Weighted GPA even MORE Important

  • Will be HARDER for UC’s to separate one 3.9 student from the other

  • “Test Optional” Pushes UC Applicants to Prepare for the SAT

Positives and Negatives of CSU/USC “No Test Scores” for Class of 2021

POSITIVES

  • Students with GPAs of 2.5 to 2.8 can definitely make it into CSU if they pick non-impacted CSUs – Many would normally have LOW SAT/ACT scores.

  • LOW PSAT/ GPA Students should focus ONLY on GPA

NOTE: If parents are willing to take on larger debt than CSU for college – YES SAT is still important.

NEGATIVES

  • 65% of our Students would NOT have gotten into their desired CSU without the SAT Score they got.

  • Nearly 33% of our students got into CSU (only) due to SAT Scores – They had GPAs 2.2 to 2.5 – These will need to go to 2-Year College.

  • Even though CSU and UC will accept PASS/FAIL for this semester, it’s not clear how previous D’s and F’s will be made up if FALL HS remains ONLINE

Conclusions - SAT Testing in CA

  • It’s very possible that there will not be testing in CA this year

  • What will colleges do? They will probably “alter” requirements for CA students - Fairness?

  • Maybe College Board will go to an ONLINE test in CA? Stay tuned…..

  • You should be calling your test site after checking at Collegeboard.com (or on our list HERE)
