The SAT switched to a digital format in the spring of 2024…

This means the test is now taken on a computer instead of paper and pencil.

Here's what parents need to know:

  • It's Shorter: The digital SAT is two hours long, compared to three hours for the old version.

  • More Time Per Question: Students will have slightly more time to answer each question on the digital SAT.

  • Still scored the same: The digital SAT is scored on the same 1600-point scale as the old test.

  • Taken on familiar devices: Students can take the digital SAT on a laptop or tablet provided by the test center, or they can bring their own device (with some restrictions).

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

  • The digital SAT is still a challenging test. It's important for students to start taking prep sessions early to develop good test-taking skills.

  • It's important for students to practice taking the test on a computer so they can get used to the format, which we do in our sessions.

  • The digital SAT is still required for admission to many colleges and universities. However, an increasing number of schools are becoming test-optional. Contact us to see if your student needs to take the SAT test or not. We base it on the school choices, gpa, and other factors you may not consider.
