Awarded on the basis of scholarship and participation in SPS to undergraduate students in their sophomore or junior year of study who are from a group that is underrepresented in science and engineering*

*The United States Department of Education defines underrepresented in science and engineering as: a minority group whose number of scientists and engineers per 10,000 population of that group is substantially below the comparable figure for scientists and engineers who are white and not of Hispanic origin. [This includes but is not necessarily limited to females and people who are Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and Hispanic or Latino.]
Eligibility
Applicants must be students in their sophomore or junior year of college who are majoring in physics or a related science
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who attend a college or university in the United States
Applicants must be undergraduate members of the SPS national organization
Applicants must be from a group that is underrepresented in science and engineering*
