COVID-19 — College Admissions Effects

Excerpt from Jumpstart Meeting #18 c/o 2020

There have already been significant effects on Colleges and their incoming Freshman Classes due to COVID-19…here’s a breakdown of what’s changed.

Find out why…

AN OVERVIEW AND WHAT’S NEW AT EEP:

  • Colleges SUDDENLY are plunged into uncertainty by the Local, State and Federal response to the Corona Virus Outbreak – Only quick and drastic lessening of public fear and/or very different GOVT response will return things even near “normal”.

  • There has been a 60% economic shutdown for an undetermined time.

  • Effect on EEP and how we’re moving forward:

    • ONLINE Homework Club

    • ONLINE SAT Prep

    • ONLINE targeted information session for Class of 2020 and 2021

    • ONLINE Family College Conferencing

    • Email cmartinez.eep@gmail.com for more info!

  • We are still planning LATTC Classes and the Summer Bridge Program either distance Learning or classroom or (most likely some of both).

WHAT COLLEGES ARE DOING:

  • Most College Sent Home their students at a cost of MILLIONS of $$ per college; Lost Rent and Tuition (in some cases); students filing claims for tuition due to online vs in-person classes

  • Some Colleges sheltered in place since their Governors were concerned about sending youth home to grandparents and on planes

  • Colleges are bracing for reduced enrollment (and $$) due to fears about traveling and living in another city will persist through Fall 2020; Also bracing for more “Special Circumstance FA Awards” given the economic situation (See next slide)

  • Private Schools are suffering and will suffer the most

  • Our take… There will be an adverse effect on FA Awards
